AoIR – Day 1
Organization:
I like very much that lunch is provided at the conference. It makes it much easier to eat lunch with people you don’t know very well and it’s easier to make the immediate post-lunch panels. I also like that the Q and A is directly after each speaker because it guarantees everyone gets at least a question or two, and if I need to leave before the end I feel like it’s not as rude.
Content:
I very much enjoyed Rajiv Shah’s paper today where he was talking about software defaults. It’s an area that’s very important and deserves more attention and empirical work. He said that his study of wireless access points shows that 22% of access points with security opt-in have security enabled and 96% with security opt-out have it enabled, which shows what a huge impact this can have.
