is a qualitative data analysis program for OS X or unix that I have
been working with for a couple months now. It’s an open source project
and I like to go that route when I can, plus all of the other software
of its kind is quite expensive, even for students. I’ve been very happy
with its features, if anything it has too many of them! It even does a
great job with playing and slowing digital audio for transcription. The
searching and coding has done everything I’ve asked of it, and I like
how nice it works with other programs, allowing an easy export to
Excel. It takes a while to get comfortable with all the little buttons
and the extensive menus, and I can’t say I really understand all of the
features yet, but it’s definitely helping me take a look at the data
I’ve got so far from the preliminary work I’ve done. The only
significant thing lacking is adequate documentation. Hopefully there
will be a documentation wiki where users can develop something better
over time.
